Irving Berlin in Hollywood: The Art of Plugging a Song in Film

Adaptability may be the most salient characteristic of Irving Berlins long career as a songwriter. This is hardly surprising; Irving Berlin wrote popular songs and popular taste is notoriously fickle. Moreover, Berlin grew up at a time when the key to an immigrants success was perceived, by many, to be assimilation, that is, adaptability.
