Punk: Attitude. Don Letts, director. 2005. Capital DVD CEE00008 (270 minutes; Picture format widescreen; sound: dolby digital 2.0; region 1).

End of the Century: The Story of the Ramones. Michael Gramaglia and Jim Fields, directors. 2005. Rhino Home Video DVD R2 970399 (150 minutes; Picture format 4:3; sound: dolby 5.1; region 1).

The entry on "punk rock" in the second edition of the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians begins by stating that punk is "an aggressive style of rock that was part of a deeply contradictory movement initiated in london by Malcolm McLaren in 1975." This entry, which credits a nonmusician with initiating a musical movement, reveals a perhaps not inappropriate nationalism at the New Grove. Certainly, the British punk rock movement gained more notice than its forerunners in the United States and initially received much more critical attention in both the popular and academic press.
